Introducing the CBD Massage

I’m sure by now you’ve heard a lot of buzz surrounding CBD oil and its myriad of wondrous health benefits.  But still you may find yourself asking, “What exactly is CBD, and how can it help me?”  Well please take a short moment to read our latest blog, where we explain just that, and introduce a new treatment here at Spa Rockaway—the CBD Massage!

CBD (cannabidiol) is a class of phytochemicals extracted from the hemp plant.  Discovered in 1940, it was not initially believed to have the pharmaceutical benefits we associate with it today.  Now, cannabidiols are arguably the most studied therapeutic compounds on the planet!

Although hemp is related to the marijuana plant, it has none of the psychoactive properties of marijuana, and it is legal throughout the United States.  It is not mind-altering nor is it habit-forming.

It has since been discovered that the human body is hard-wired with a system of cannabidiol receptors throughout our body.  This is called the Endocannabidiol System, and it permits our bodies to efficiently take in and respond to all the therapeutic properties CBD has to offer.  These include:

  • Anti-inflammatory

  • Anti-depressant

  • Anti-psychotic

  • Anti-epileptic

  • Bone stimulant

  • Immunosuppresant

  • Analgesic

  • Vasoconstriction

  • Anti-diabetic

CBD is now being used to treat epilepsy, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic pain, gastrointestinal disorders, insomnia, schizophrenia, alcoholism, PTSD, and infections, among others.

Garnering most of the attention, however, is CBD’s ability to manage pain.  Hemp-derived, non-psychoactive CBD has been found to benefit individuals suffering from chronic-pain syndromes such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, neuropathy, and more.  It helps to relieve aches and pains and release the tension that often causes pain to linger and grow.

Pain medications may not be taken for prolonged periods due to the damage they inflict on the stomach, liver, and kidneys.  They are also habit-forming, and it is easy to build up a tolerance—making pain medications less effective over time.  But CBD is different, having a remarkable safety profile.  It addresses pain at the site of the discomfort, and decreases pain signaling to the brain-- promoting relaxation.

Many folks are now using CBD as an adjunct to their pain medications and some have even been able to eliminate many of their medicines completely.  Non mind-altering and not habit-forming, you can use it whenever you need without worrying about side-effects.

How does massage fit in with this, you wonder?  I’m glad you asked!

Spa Rockaway is honored to be the place where you come to relax and pamper.  In addition to this, we pride ourselves on offering therapeutic services for the body, skin, and soul.  For this reason, we are excited to add CBD Massage as our newest therapeutic treatment.

Our CBD Massage uses professional massage cream infused with 700 mg of pure, hemp-derived, non-GMO CBD.  It also contains Arnica and Comfrey extract for advanced pain management.  Combined with the infrared heat blankets on all our beds, this makes for a dynamite massage.

Having CBD infused into this professional-grade product is the key, as it allows your therapist to apply its rich benefits directly to the areas of pain and discomfort-- exactly where it is needed most.  Absorbed through the skin, the CBD binds to the body’s own CB2 receptors (this is the Endocannabidiol System at work), and the pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory effects begin to work.

Pure hempseed oil also contains benefits often missing from other oils.  Rich in essential fatty acids and over a dozen vitamins and minerals, its anti-inflammatory properties dramatically decrease skin dryness and alleviate itching and reduce irritation.  Arnica is known to reduce pain and swelling caused by bruises, aches, and sprains, and is known to soothe sore muscles when combined with massage therapy.  For this reason, it’s also ideal for Rockaway’s many athletes.

No doubt you already know how incorporating massage therapy on a regular basis can greatly improve your wellness routine. Kick this wellness routine up a notch and try a CBD Massage.
