Spa Rockaway’s Top Skin Care Tips for The Summer

In past blogs I have talked about how your skin will improve by getting facials on a regular basis.  Today I’d like to talk about the importance of maintaining an At-Home Skin Care regimen.  Many people spend thousands of dollars a year on products that promise dewy, healthy, and youthful skin-- after only a few applications.  While my next blog will cover in more detail the ABC’s of using products at home and in between facial treatments, today I want to discuss other, often overlooked methods of maintaining healthy skin.

Summertime is synonymous with vacation.  Unfortunately, some people also take a vacation from taking care of their skin!  But it is so important to maintain a skin care routine during these summer months.  Whether you are away from home or out on a day trip, here are some easy steps to take that will benefit your skin.

Limit Sun Exposure And Use Sunscreen

Experts have long warned about staying under the sun for too long without any protection.  Overexposure to the sun causes wrinkles, age-spots, and worse—increased risk of skin cancer.
Instead of spending hours trying to look like a sun goddess, consider booking an Airbrush Spray Tan.  We use all-natural ingredients, and each appointment only takes about 20 minutes!
Spa Rockaway also sells Coola Sunscreen.  This fantastic company makes Organic, Mineral-based sunscreen products—whether it be a classic sunscreen, a spray sunscreen, or a BB Cream with a matte finish.  For the summer months, we will also be selling wide-brimmed hats that have an SPF of 50.

Stay Hydrated

Those of you familiar with my Skin Fitness Program know that our skin is much more complex than it appears.  The largest muscle in the human body, it is an intricate system of tissues, glands, blood vessels, and 3 major layers of skin.  One of the absolute easiest ways to improve overall skin appearance is simply by drinking plenty of water!  Keeping hydrated will encourage fibroblasts to produce more collagen and elastin which will prevent wrinkles and make your skin more resilient.  Drinking plenty of water will also help your body get rid of toxins—which may be causing blemishes and acne.  So remember to always bring a bottle of water with you wherever you go.

Exercise

Exercise is so much more than simply building muscle.  One of the best benefits of regular exercise is improved circulation.  Increased blood flow keeps skin cells healthy by excreting waste products such as harmful free radicals—which are known to cause premature skin aging—and replacing them with nutrients.  Exercise also helps to decrease stress, which can exacerbate skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, and acne.  Most hotels these days have fitness rooms, so try to take advantage!

Moisturize

If there is one powerhouse way to prevent wrinkles, it is to moisturize every day.  This concept goes hand in hand with keeping your skin hydrated by drinking water.  When the skin is dry, it ages so much more quickly.  Some people are hesitant to use too much moisturizer in the summer because they are afraid it will feel heavy in the heat.  But not all moisturizer have to feel thick and heavy.  Personally, I like to apply a light but powerful serum like hyaluronic acid a few minutes before putting on my sunscreen-- it really locks in the moisture so that I stay hydrated even though I am out of the house all day.

We have a great selection of products for all skin types here at Spa Rockaway.  We are open 7 days a week so feel free to stop by or give us a ring at 718-318-8840 with any questions!

Lots of Love,
